The Cows And The Sheep And The Birds And The Outlaws
have you seen them?
these outlaws in our midst
they are too often old and battered down and grizzled and wear clothes of a cheap garb to break your soul
shoes showing a poverty no one should suffer
and they wander about or sit on the benches on the street, a front row pew on a world cruel that has no kindness or time or care or acknowledgement for them.
they are here and they are not; like we all are somehow.
and there is a light in their eyes dimmed though not yet quite doused
and the luminescence reaches all the way back to the childs they were and a time when the shock, the sheer coldness of what they were borne into was not revealed in its treachery.
then they too caught bluebirds in their palms and laughed at cartoons and asked themselves what makes the stars silvery jewels illuminating the heavens.
