Nightingale Fly South For The Gambia

41-81 million rufous nightingales

winter in Africa

and the UK ones land separate from their cousins

hitting The Gambia for the warm air there

and if you see them fly in the fall towards the equator from Europe

give them a wave, vision their flight across thousands of miles of endless skies

strafing scarlet daybreaks

hotyellow mid-afternoon suns

dusks and evetimes tinted ochre and orange and myriad pinks and purples

fireworks on the horizon

and vision this, too:

the 8 summers lives of these passerines

the 8 parabolas made each autumn, dipping for the tropics

the 8 returns heading back for Europe

and the UK brethren flying their own route to Norfolk, Kent et al
