PJ Harrison's Regent Street #7
The first in a series of artists choosing one of their works. Today, Harrison writes of his painting capturing London's famous thoroughfare: 'The echoes of lives in each raindrop’s patter'
PJ Harrison’s Notes on Regent Street#7
Walking in the drizzle’s delicate grace
Floral umbrellas bloom
Traffic’s distant refrain
Headlights warm the rainy pall
Spotlighting scenes in the inky sprawl
Temporary refrain.
The fleeting life on this stage
Chains of Routemasters play their tune
Heads kept low in the ebb and flow
Traffic glides
Cagoules of silhouetted of souls pass
The echoes of lives in each raindrop’s patter
The shop signs flicker and cast a glow against the city’s velveteen throw
I stop and embrace the transient refrain.
An urban symphony
The perfect curve of Nash’s dreams.
A transient stage where all life gleams.
Rainy regents street.
A symphony on wet concrete.
