Life Becomes Life
From Poyton to Macclesfield along the Middlewood Way and the sun in spring showing light and longer hours of day into evening and she was transfixed by the daguerreotype of her son and daughter when they were 6 and 4 with their cousins who were sisters and age 6 and 8 in the picture.
Her son had the younger cousin on his shoulders.
Her daughter was held in the older cousin’s arms.
Ambling through the wood lined walkway the image of their youth and how they were caught in the photograph under the apple tree in the garden timeless smiling unaware of their existence and aware of scant else.
Four childs of blood and shared and forgotten earthlong biographies and the apple tree where the sun shafted past and through boughs the same as them and the same as the soil and the same as the grassland they stood on and her son in the daguerreotype as he piggybacked his cousin of the same 6 years age sticking out his tongue and the cousin he piggybacked wore a floral dress and her hair gold tresses and the angle of the photograph took off the top of her head including her eyes and her smile was gaptoothed and next to her son and this cousin her daughter garbed in shorts and striped t-shirt a ephemeral being in the arms of her older cousin who at having reached 8 years age gazed direct at the camera and her smile went to the time of pre-dinosaurs and ahead into the unfathomable millennia and as she ambled past Adlington towards Pott Shrigley she saw vivid in the image the dance of the star at the centre of the solar system and the incandescent radiation that travelled ultraviolet and infrared to where the four childs of the planet met the day of the daguerreotype.
