Adventures IN Love
My next novel takes place at the peak of the biggest culture explosion since the 1960s: it was a youth happening, an EVERYONE happening. And is based on a true event, as the story tells...
July 21st 1990: Gildersome, Leeds.Â
At around 5am, West Yorkshire Police break up the last big rave of the era. 836 kids were arrested. I was 18, had got off a flight from a Mediterranean isle that morning at Heathrow Airport, tubed across Londinium, hit Euston mid-afternoon for the train to Lancaster, walked through the town, went into the Slip Inn where the local tough lads were in situ.
They said: ‘We’re going to warehouse party near Leeds.’
So I jumped in with them…
Wow.
What a night.
And:
That evening, that summer was hugely formative – for an entire generation.
Adventures IN Love is an ode to those times, those nights, that music, and being the age where all you do is have fun…
The book is a funny and warm love/crime/thriller caper, a disco dancing yarn.
A novel that has the sound of those times…
ADVENTURES IN LOVE
Acid House has hit England, drawing thousands to illegal all-night warehouse parties across the country. As the sun bakes down on factories and fields, all over the country the young dance and get loved-up to the blissed out sounds of electronic music. But the clouds are gathering over the second summer of love. Before long, the raves will be driven underground by a moral majority terrified of their partying children.
DJ Nancy Kools and Joey ‘Two-Brains’ Miller are not yet 18, high, in love, and with absolutely nothing to lose. So they rip off a thousand pills and head to the last ever rave to sell these, the plan to escape and live the rest of their lives on a sun-drenched party isle named Eivissa.
If, that is, they are not caught first by those they have ripped off. Gerard ‘Frenchy’ Toces and Lancaster’s Mr Big…
Think Tarantino with the mood of Irvine Welsh. If Jamie Paradise had a love child with Emily Bronte.
Try reading Adventures in Love without wishing:
You had been there (were you?)
You had some pills right now (do you?)
You need to disco dance...
